Wake Hustle Grind is proud to spotlight the incredible work of Eniola Shokunbi, who has spearheaded a transformative effort to bring cleaner air to classrooms in Connecticut. With her leadership, an $11.5 million grant was secured to fund the construction and installation of DIY air filters in schools across the state.
This initiative, supported by Connecticut legislators and the bond commission, is a collaboration with scientists from the University of Connecticut. Eniola’s vision goes beyond improving air quality—she’s actively involving students in the process. By building the Corsi-Rosenthal air filter boxes themselves, students gain hands-on experience in STEAM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts, and Mathematics), develop leadership skills, and learn about the importance of environmental health.
Eniola recently shared the impact of this initiative with Lt. Governor Susan Bysiewicz, showcasing its potential to create healthier learning environments. With plans to expand this model nationwide, Eniola’s mission is clear: healthier classrooms, empowered students, and a more sustainable future for schools everywhere.
